Renewing Our Campus for the Next Generation

Northway Christian Church is preparing for the future with hope, care, and a deep commitment to our neighbors. As we discern how best to steward our campus for the generations to come, we are moving forward with thoughtful planning, open communication, and collaborative engagement with our community partners. This season of renewal is guided by prayer, empathy, and a generous imagination—trusting that God is shaping a path that allows Northway to serve well, welcome widely, and grow faithfully in the years ahead.

As we continue working toward a long-term plan for Northway Christian Church, we engage frequently with our surrounding community, as well as others who are interested in the process. We are sharing this project update as part of our commitment to transparency and in hope for shared understanding and steady progress as we shape our campus for the future. We rely on prayer, empathy, nimbleness, and a generous imagination as we discern how best to steward our Northway campus for the future.

Northway is committed to the safety of students and neighbors, and will not permit activities on our campus that threaten safety. Compass leadership has expressed that same commitment. This renovation will be undertaken with great effort to minimize traffic, construction and noise.

The zoning ask: The request is straightforward. Northway Christian Church is seeking a Specific Use Permit for a term of 10 years to allow for the operation of a private PK-8th school on its campus. Notably, the underlying R-7.5 zoning will remain.

We are listening. On April 30, Northway hosted a community meeting for neighbors to learn about the pending zoning application. Members of the community expressed their opinions about the project. Since then, Northway has worked with community stakeholders to address questions and concerns regarding the proposed Specific Use Permit, and our dialogue continues.

We have incorporated community feedback into our project plans: While the initial zoning application was filed on February 18, 2026, revised zoning application documents were filed July 8, 2026 with the City of Dallas. To review the latest filings, click the buttons shown below.

Commitment to Community

As part of its commitment to being a responsible community partner and minimizing potential impacts, Northway has voluntarily agreed to the following conditions in the SUP:

• Enrollment Cap: Elementary school enrollment will be limited to 340 students. The operation of a high school on site will be prohibited.

• Limited SUP Term: The Specific Use Permit is requested for a term of 10 years;

• Traffic Management Plan: The school will implement a City-approved Traffic Management Plan (TMP) designed to coordinate, rather than conflict with, traffic operations at nearby Boone Elementary School, with the goal of maintaining safe and efficient traffic circulation as well as pedestrian and cyclist safety during arrival and dismissal periods. Annual updates of the TMP will be required until the 8th grade has been added, and thereafter biannually.

• Crossing Guard Support: To further enhance pedestrian safety, Northway Christian Church is willing to provide reasonable financial support for additional crossing guard coverage if requested by the City of Dallas or agreed upon by The Compass School of Texas.

• On-Site Security: A law enforcement officer will be present on campus during school hours to provide security and assist with traffic operations during student arrival and dismissal.

Next Steps: The City of Dallas will review Northway’s materials, including the Special Use Permit, now and as our plans continue to take shape.
